Do I need a car to live and learn in the area?
While some transportation options are available—including rideshare and limited public transit—most residents will find that having a personal vehicle is the most convenient and reliable way to commute between clinical sites, housing, and surrounding communities.

Where do most residents live?
Residents typically will live in Sharon, PA and nearby communities throughout Mercer County, as well as in parts of Mahoning and Trumbull Counties in Ohio. Many may choose housing based on proximity to their primary training site, with most commutes ranging from 10–30 minutes.

What is the cost of living like?
The Shenango Valley and surrounding region offer a cost of living that is significantly more affordable than many metropolitan areas. Residents will benefit from reasonable housing costs, accessible amenities, and overall lower day-to-day expenses and free parking at our primary clinical site.

What is the community like?
The region offers a welcoming, close-knit community with a strong sense of local pride. Residents will experience a blend of small-town comfort with convenient access to larger cities like Pittsburgh and Cleveland for additional dining, entertainment, and cultural opportunities.

How far are major airports?
Several airports are within driving distance, making travel convenient:

What is the weather like throughout the year?
The area experiences all four seasons, including warm summers, colorful falls, mild springs, and cold winters with occasional snow. The region is well-prepared for seasonal changes, and daily activities—including commuting—remain consistent year-round.

What types of clinical experiences can I expect?
Residents will learn in a mix of community-based and affiliated healthcare settings, gaining exposure to diverse patient populations and a wide range of clinical conditions. This structure will provide a strong balance of hands-on learning and academic support.

Are there opportunities for wellness and work-life balance?
Yes. WRHE will make resident wellness a priority through dedicated spaces, programming, and a resident-led wellness committee. Resources such as relaxation areas, wellness events, and ongoing feedback initiatives are designed to support both personal and professional well-being.
