A Day in My Life as a WRHE Resident
As a resident at WRHE, my days are busy, rewarding, and balanced. I get the opportunity to care for patients, continue learning, and still have time to recharge and enjoy life outside of medicine.
Resident Experience: A Day in the Life
Morning: Starting Strong
Midday: Learning & Teamwork
Afternoon: Building Confidence
Evening: Time to Unwind
Weekends & Time Off
My day usually starts early as I get ready for rounds and review my patients. Mornings are focused on connecting with my team, discussing cases, and making clinical decisions. One of the things I appreciate most is the short commute—living nearby makes it easy to start the day without added stress.
As the day moves forward, I continue patient care while participating in teaching rounds, conferences, or case discussions. I work closely with attending physicians and other members of the care team, which creates a strong learning environment. There’s always someone willing to teach, answer questions, and support my growth.
When I get a break, I’ll grab lunch with co-residents or take a few minutes to reset before heading into the afternoon
The afternoons are often filled with follow-ups, procedures, and continued patient care. This is where I really feel my skills growing—I’m given responsibility, but I also know support is always there when I need it. The variety of patients and cases keeps each day interesting and challenging in a good way.
After a full day, I head home to relax and recharge. Many of us live in nearby communities like Sharon, PA, Youngstown, or Warren, so getting home is quick and easy. Evenings might include cooking dinner, going to the gym, or meeting up with friends or family.
When I’m off, I take advantage of everything the area has to offer. I enjoy spending time outdoors, trying local restaurants, or taking a short trip to Pittsburgh or Cleveland for a change of pace. It’s easy to find a good balance between work and personal time here.
